Catholic hospital won't let me tie my tubes. Anyone else?

My first child was born via c-section. I opted to have this one via c-section as opposed to VBAC. I asked my doctor if I could get my tubes tied after the baby is born. The nearest hospital recently became owned by Catholics (probably the past 3 years or so) and she told me that they probably won't approve of it, but I could just get an IUD. I'm so freaking frustrated with this, I don't understand how a hospital can make a decision like that for me. The next nearest hospital is over an hour from me and I don't feel like I should have to switch doctors and hospitals just because of this. I know their are other options for birth control, but it would make it so much easier if I could get my tubes tied right after the baby is born, considering everything will already be open. Is anyone else going through this? I never thought I'd have trouble getting my tubes tied.

Have your dr check into it.  I delivered at a Catholic hospital and they allow it for c section but not after a vaginal birth with epidural. I agree it's bullshit for them to get to decide your medical care.  Honestly you're already paying for the OR and dr, it would piss me off to have to pay for and go through  another procedure because your hospital doesn't allow it. Your dr should really be 100% certain of the hospital policy.

It’s not just that hospital. Most have laws that require them to say no until like 24 unless you have a medical reason. My mom is a nurse, my mother in law works labor and delivery and my aunt is an obgyn and they said it’s been a common practice at each hospital they work at and non of them are religiously run

Same at mine. they do allow it during a c-section, but not after vaginal. also, my doc was willing to say it was necessary if needed.

Because pregnancy and childbirth can be an emotionally charged time, they legally have to make sure that there is nothing influencing your decision. Most states and doctors will make you wait 6 mo PP before they will consider you a candidate. I'm sure its frustrating but they really are trying to protect you (and themselves)

My hospital is also a catholic hospital. They also will not allow tubals or vasectomies. We have to go to a nearby hospital 6 weeks after birth

There is one OB I work with who will tie tubes after the day you deliver, all others it’s 6 weeks after I believe

True for catholic hospitals in my city.  They do not do tubals there.  A friend of mine had to choose a different hospital to deliver at so she could get her tubes tied right after the csection
