Gender Surprise
Nowadays, everyone seems to know their baby’s gender before the halfway mark and have a year’s worth of wardrobe purchased. Not us, though. We’re trying to keep baby’s gender a mystery until the actual birth day (I want the weepy surprise of “Its a ____!”). So far, this has caused quite a bit of anguish for my husband’s grandmother and a few others. They even seem angered by our decision to not find out. It’s also usually accompanied with a resentful, “Well then I guess you just won’t be able to buy any cute clothes. Just have an ultrasound photo put into an envelope and just let me look at it so I can buy things. You don’t have to look.” Call me a b*tch, but I don’t think it’s okay for others to know more about an unborn child than their parents, especially for something so trivial as baby clothes. We’ve also met with disappointment that we’re not having a gender reveal party (I would love a good ol’ fashioned baby shower, no gimmicks).
Has anyone else dealt with similar issues? How did you ward people off and stay comfortable with your decision to keep baby’s gender a surprise?
