Why would my doctor offer to put me on birth control when she knows I'm TTC?

I have irregular and extremely painful periods and have been TTC for a year. I believe something may be wrong but my doctor refuses to look into it and only wants to put me on birth control to help with the irregularity. How is that going to help me get pregnant?

Mine initially put me on birth control too (very irregular periods, PCOS), knowing that we wanted to get pregnant, basically to give my body a chance to kind of "reset" itself and get things under control before TTC. I was on BC pills for 6 months (it's discouraging, I know, but I love my doctor and trusted her judgement) before I started Metformin, and now Clomid as well. It's hard to be patient, but hopefully you have or can find a doctor who is on your side and is willing to address all your concerns. I'm glad I listened to mine, now I'm currently TTC with my first month of Clomid and I've had time to make some other small changes to get myself the healthiest I can be. My doctor's advice to wait and take BC for awhile was absolutely a blessing in disguise. Good luck! 💕

My doctor put me on progesterone 200 mg from the 20th to 27th every month to start my periods. They start 2days after my last pill now. My periods were irregular and when they came heavy and painful. I didn't want to be put on birth control either so she put me on that.

I heard that they put you on it for about a year so your periods get regular again and then take you off it  and hopefully your periods stay regular so you ovulate normally.  I may be wrong I just remember reading it somewhere.
