Is it pacifier time???

Question

My baby is 3 wks old, latches on fine, but is using me as a pacifier. Anytime I put him down after feeding he starts fussing and sucking on his hands, then I'll feed him and he'll fall asleep on my breasts.  I am so ready to introduce an actual pacifier so I can get some relief for my nipples. I am just worried I'll interfere with the breast feeding success we have had. So, should I wait? BTW-I'll be back to work in August, so a bottle will need to be introduced by week 5/6 to get us both in a routine. I plan to pump, not formula feed for at least 6 months.

Thanks everyone, I gave him a paci last night and it helped me keep him sleeping for longer than an hour and he slept in his bassinest most of the night, not on us! Today he has been feeding like a champ and hasn't used the paci once. Hoping to use it as a bedtime thing for now. My nipples are feeling much better right now, and mama is happier. 😊

I introduced a pacifier from day 1. Yes my daughter can tell the difference between it and my breast, but sometimes when she just wants to suck and is no longer hungry, I will use it. No confusion yet here! She is a champion breastfeeder!

I introduced a pacifier at 2 weeks and he is fine with breast feeding! He chooses not to use the pacifier most of the time though. My lactation consultant recommended these pacifiers.

My baby got a paci at 3 days old and has no problems with feeding. I'm glad for it because she also likes to use me as a pacifier so it's a nice break for my nipples. We use the avent soothie one.

We've been using a pacifier since my LO was 2 days old. He's exclusively breast fed and haven't had any issues with nipple confusion. He's 8 weeks now

I used the soothie provided by the hospital since about the 3rd day as needed for fussiness and a bottle when needed. My daughter is 6 weeks and still no nipple confusion she latches just perfectly

When my twins were in the NICU, the nurses gave them pacifiers if needed. No nipple confusion here. Both refuses to take a pacifier now at 4 weeks, just if very hungry.

I introduced a pacifier at 3.5 weeks because my son was constantly using me as one & I couldn't get a break. It was giving him gas & causing a lot of spitting up because he would overeat. We are now 4 months in, still exclusively breastfeeding & he hardly ever takes one unless he's in the car, but it helped a lot in the beginning.

I'm never going to introduce a pacifier. Baby could get nipple confusion and no longer breastfeed. That is what happened to my friend, actually.
