We couldn’t wait to turn our 2yr old around. She is very tall for her age and we were planning on turning her on her 2nd birthday as the law in our state requires us to wait until at least 2. But we were lazy and never got around to it. And thank god we didn’t, on Christmas Day we were rear ended by a drunk driver who was going 60+mph while we were stopped at a traffic light. I’m 100% convinced my daughter would have had serious crush injuries if she had been forward facing. Both my rear facing babies didn’t even have a scratch. We plan on rear facing until they’re in high school at least lmao.

Go by the height and weight requirements of the car seat, not age.

3 or 4 then switch to forward facing but in whatever the best car seat is at that time. Not going in a booster for quiiiite some time. The pelvis isn’t even fully formed hard bone until the age of 5! Trigger warning below.
I live in central Florida and a couple of years ago there was a horrendous accident on I-95 (70 mph in the area it occurred). Three teenagers and two adults died (I believe- I know the teens did for sure because they weren’t buckled in). At the accident scene they heard a crying baby. The car seat had flown over the 15 to 20 foot divider to a housing community. The baby had no internal injuries, just some cuts and bruises. I’ll try to find the story now. It was crazy. Car seats save lives when used properly...not by the manufacturers guidelines either because those are always the bare minimum. I’m all about car seat safety too!

I plan to have my daughter rear facing as long as physically possible. I have friends that are huge on car seat safety so I've read why it's so important to multiple times haha.

My two year old is currently rear facing in a Graco 4Ever. He’s very tall for his age but doesn’t seem overly scrunched yet. Baby Sister is due in 4 weeks so my plan is to buy a Graco Extend2Fit for my son once she needs to move into a convertible seat. That will give him extra legroom to continue to rearface AND get her into a convertible seat. Then they can swap once he needs a forward facing harness or high back booster and she needs the extra legroom of the Extend2Fit.

My daughter has special needs and is quite small for her age. She is 20 months old now but around average size for a 9 month old. We intend to keep her rear facing up to the maximum limits of the car seat which in her case could very well be 6 or 7 years old!  Obviously we’re in a unique situation but rear facing is just so much safer. 
There are so many milestones I look forward to seeing my daughter achieve someday but facing forward in the car just isn’t one of them.

Not until our daughter completely maxes out the height or weight requirements of her car seat to be rear facing. I'm in no hurry whatsoever to switch her. They're so much safer rear facing.
