Would you go to a salon to get fake nails or just do it at home?

I never got acrylics before, didn't like the damage it could do and at the salon it didn't seem like they care how rough they are either. Bought a kit and tried it myself. 
This is my first and only attempt so far lol. I definitely need to work on the shape but tbh for my first time, I was happy with how they turned out!

Nail techs cause damage, not the products. Nail techs who are uneducated and lazy are what causes damage. 
Acrylics and gels cause equal amount of “damage” when your nails are properly prepped. Also using quality products that are meant for the nails (MMA -should not be used- vs EMA -should be used-). Making sure product is removed safely is another huge thing to keeping your nails healthy when getting them done at the salon.
A carbide bit should never be used to prep the nail plate. Places that do that are most likely using MMA, which is illegal acrylic that is meant for dental use, not for use on nails. 
Acrylic should be soaked off, not removed with a nail tip or biting them off. 
The nail plate should be prepped with a file or a sanding bit. 
Gel should either be soaked off or can be removed with the e-file to just remove the color and leave the base coat to help maintain the natural nail.
At home care is also huge in the maintenance of healthy nails. 
Wear gloves while cleaning or washing dishes. Do not use them as tools. Do not rip off the nails. Do not pick at them. We can tell when that happens, there is damage to the nail plate. If a nail “pops off” it was not prepped properly. 
I am so glad there are so many more nail techs that are changing this industry. It’s so important that we educate clients so they can have healthy, beautiful nails.

I voted salon. I’m not a fan of acrylic nails as they make your real nails super weak. Whenever I’ve got fake nails I’ve always got gel extensions as they are a lot better for your nails.
