Let’s discuss in laws... what are your thoughts and feelings on them?

So I figure this could go into a lot of different rooms but I feel like CC has the most bluntness when it comes to topics and thought this could maybe start up a bit of controversy. 
Basically I just want this thread to be an open discussion on feelings towards in laws whether they are good or bad, let it all out. Additionally I think it would be great for people to share why they think the topic of in laws can be challenging for some.

I don't think in laws in general are horrible. Just like people in general aren't horrible. People clash with people, it's a way of life. Unfortunately sometimes people clash with their in laws. As for me, I'm one of those who clash with mine. I'm truly jealous of those who have great relationships with their in laws but after being disrespected from the moment I married her son, I'm done trying.

I loathe mine.. they make me extremely uncomfortable and there has been multiple times that they have just ruined any relationship we could have. I feel like I’ve tried really hard to make the best of the situation and like them but they aren’t willing to make comprises or meet me halfway with what I’m comfortable with so it’s kind of hard to put up with their crap. They are the worst parts of my partner times 1000 and it’s become a shit show and continues to get worse with them.

I feel like my father in law and his side of the family doesn’t really like me. My mother in law has openly said she used to not like me, but i still feel like she hates me. They don’t know boundaries and feel like they have to be included in everything

My husbands family lives +1,200 miles away so they’re kind of a nonissue. Moving away has given my husband a better relationship with his father, unfortunately, his mother is no longer alive.

I’ve got the mil/sil special with a side of passive-aggressiveness 🙄. I guess it helps us to be cordial and appear like it’s all good on the outside, but I know they talk shit behind my back. They seem nice sometimes, then other times can both be a bitch. It’s confusing honestly, and exhausting. I never know how to treat them. I always try to be kind, but even after 10 years I’m not used to always having to have my guard up or being on the defense at a moments notice. 🤷‍♀️🤔😒

Mine are fine so I personally have no issues. 
But my guess is that people can be horrible, no matter who they are or who they’re related to. However the fact that it’s your SO’s parents makes it harder on your life because nobody wants to intentionally clash with someones parents? Especially if you are the addition to the family. It’s worse for the person stuck in the middle.

I find it incredibly odd that a man that I love and adore so much (my husband) was raised by two people that drive me mad for the most part. How can he have been raised by them!???? How is it that I clash so bad with a woman who is the female version of my husband!? She drives me MAD!
And then there are these few things he does that are annoying and I have these ah ha moments because I know right where he got them from...his nutty mother.

I never met my FIL, he died a long time ago. But my MIL is something else I suppose...she’s married to the guy she cheated on my FIL with and he was abusive when my husband was a teen. He just doesn’t really talk to them.

I love my husbands family, although sometimes it can feel overbearing 
My MIL wants a camera in our child’s nursery that she can watch whenever she wants
She and the other women in my husbands family still feel like they need to criticize and control what my husband wears (boots and work clothes, he’s an electrician, he’s hardly dressed up)
My MIL refers to herself as “mommy” when she’s talking to my husband. She says things such as “babe, come get this out of the cabinet for mommy”. She does it in public, in front of friends
Overall, I’m really blessed that I married into such a great family, yes there are quirks but every family has them. In laws are just something else
