Has anyone ever refused cervix checks?

I had one the other day when I ended up at the hospital for dehydration. Everything was ok in the end. When she stuck her finger up there though oh my God I screamed. I’m afraid there’ll be more later and that it could mess with my cervix. Thoughts?

Yes, you can pass on them. They'll want to check you when you're in active labor (or early labor), and I believe if you get induced they check first before starting to plan how to induce. But there isn't a good reason outside of those cases to see how dilated you are, since it doesn't correspond to when labor will start.

You can tell them that you don’t want your cervix checked. My doctor doesn’t like to check mine because it can mess with everything and start some contractions.

There is no reason to have a cervix check other than if you symptoms of labor. Having said that, many of the triage units in labor and delivery will check all patients to ensure that they don’t miss a patient in preterm labor.

🙋🏻‍♀️ last time I allowed them to check my cervix I was like 7 weeks and that was bc they did a transvaginal ultrasound. I’m now 25.4 weeks. Will not allow them to do anything down there. Even though they say it can’t cause anything - I don’t believe them. Last pregnancy I had issues and it was like they were opening me up all the time and I went into preterm labor at 22.3 weeks. Not saying that was the reason- I just don’t feel comfortable with it. There’s no reason to. If I have a problem and it needs to be done. Ok. But other than that stay away!

You can refuse if you want. I will tell you that they hurt less as your baby and cervix drop and get further along

I had it done for the first time at my 37 week apt when they did my strep b test and it HURT SO BAD

I’ve had mine looked at a few times this pregnancy very early on. I haven’t had any issues or complications, but omg did it hurt.
