I was with my abuser from 18- 31 he started when got married at 21 I had 4 children was abused in every way followed controlled I went to dr so they had it on record lied to him at why I was going then I joined gum gained strength and found a solicitor to support me there are refuges that u can go to , to be safe I didn’t know how to leave but when children seen him stab me with screwdriver and they were scared that was it

I was in a mentally & physical abusive  relationship for a total of 7 years & we have 3 children together I just got out of that relationship New Year’s Eve I had already meet someone else who made feel special in September 2017 he was the one who helped me  realize my worths & he stood behind in every decision that I made .... my kids father & him got into a physical fight & I got a stay away order put in place now my kids dad don’t come around or contact me

All that being said,  if you have an opportunity to, please leave. Call the national dv hotline, they can place you in a shelter where you are absolutely safe and is conducive to beginning your Healing. What stops you from leaving, specifically?

I know that fear will make you stay, but it can also leave, which is why (against my comfort zone), I will tell you about some of my injuries. I am deaf in one ear from when he punched me in the face and ruptured my eardrum. I still have the scar on my wrist from where we tussled and I punched, missed, and put my arm through two panes of glass window. He would also choke me until I passed out, even at 7 months pregnant. He smashed my head against the wall and through me through one before too. Did you know that if your abuser chokes you, you are hundreds more times more likely to kill you in an act of violence?

I prayed for courage for years. And it's scary to even think of leaving, but I promise you, it's worth it. It took years for me to finally be away from him. You can do the same.

I was in my dv situation for 6 1/2 years before I left (5 years ago). Once he had lost everything I had worked for (home, car, everything), he put his hands on me and I left. I never regretted it.
