Why does crochet seem more popular than knitting?

I can't crochet I can only knit but it seems like more people can crochet. When I look for patterns online I find more for crocheting than knitting. My mom can crochet and she learned it from her mom who learned it from hers etc. It just seems like people who knit are in the minority

I can't knit then again ive never tried 🤔 and i always find nothing but knitting patterns and most people i know knit

I can do both, but prefer knitting by far. I like the way it looks (nice and clean, less like knots). However, I think crochet is easier (one needle vs. two, for starters) and faster, and WAY easier to tear back to fix a mistake.

It depends on what you want to make. I find a lot more patterns for knitted garments than for crocheted ones. Are you on Ravelry?

crochet works up alot faster but it uses more yarn. I do both but I prefer to knit it's less painful on my hands

I learned to knit when I was 12, I felt the same way for a long time. I decided to try crochet 2 days ago and it is significantly easier, not to mention faster. I now go back and forth between the two.

I think crochet seems less intimidating because you only use one hook. that was my reasoning at least when I was trying to decide what to start with.

I learned knitting first and then learned crochet. I can usually find patterns for the same thing in both knitting and crochet. Lion Brand has good patterns, also Pinterest and Ravelry. I don't know why but I think it's faster to crochet than knit
