So i got diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection i work at a daycare with the babies and got my doctors note to stay home for Monday and i informed the manager of my absence a day before but the manager told me to call the daycare tomorrow morning (Monday which is today) which i did but now she’s saying i cannot call in due to two other employees calling in even with a doctors note. What can i do?

As the mother of a baby who goes to daycare, please dont go. Not sure what kind of manager wants their sick employees working around kids and babies, but sounds like a daycare i wouldnt want my kid going to.

As a parent, I’d be furious with the owner. My son caught RSV at 6 weeks old and also had laryngomalacia. As a result, he ended up with three hospitalizations during his first 6 months of life from complications with respiratory illnesses. He had complicating factors, but respiratory illnesses can be serious for any baby.

You could literally kill a child if you went in and got them sick

No, don't go. Have you ever seen what bronchiolitis per example does to a baby? It kills thousand every year. It is so sad to see their chest being so deeply compressed by the great force they make to simply breath. 
Your manager is very irresponsible and you should let her know that.

I for sure wouldn’t be going in. I’m not sure where you a from, but in Australia, if you have a doctors certificate/now saying you are too unwell to go to work, it is illegal for them to force you to. I would be telling her that you believe it is in the best interest of the kids for you not to be there.

Email/text the note to them and state “you’re telling me to come in even after being informed that I’m physically ill. Here’s my diagnosis which could kill multiple children. Do you still want me to come in?”
Get a written record vs a phone call where they could fire you and say you just didn’t come in.

don't go. if there is anyone higher up that you can talk to, let them know your boss is making you come in with a potentially life threatening illness. It's concerning that your boss would make you come in.

You have a doctors note excusing your absence and saying you are a risk to get others sick, your absence is excused and they cant fire you. other teachers being out is NOT your problem. You are at risk for getting young babies sick. If they cause big issues report them to licensing.

Maybe you should find a new job if your boss is willing to risk children’s lives just so they’re not short staffed. 
If you go in, it’s a lawsuit waiting to happen if one of those kids get sick.
