Nurse rant...?

Okay so I'm a nursing student, but I'm in the part of my program where we actually get field time/work..and I love it!!

Currently I'm just working with the elderly and dementia patients. I've never thought once that it was " gross." Or even " shitty work."

But when I tell you last night I was working a 3pm to midnight shift, and the other nursing student said to me " I didn't want to become a nurse to wipe asses and deal with Whiney old ladies." I said nothing to her, just kept counting and filing the medications for the night shift.

Why even become a nurse if you don't want to help people? It blows my mind that people who don't want to better someone else become nurses? Your shifts hard? I'm sorry..you don't want to give meds because they are cranky? I'm sorry.

Nursing isn't cookie cutter, you have to do a lot that isn't in your job requirements, but since when did you not have to care??
