FTM silly question -wet diaper?

This is probably obvious to a lot of you but I am pregnant with my first kids (twins!) and it’s all new. We are going to cloth diaper. Some friends gave us a pack of newborn disposables and I was playing around with one and it has that little yellow line on the bottom that turns blue (I think) when wet. 
So with cloth diapers, how do you tell if the diaper is wet (just pee). Smell? Or do you have to feel for it? Or just a fussy baby?

When they’re little, I just change at least every two hours. When they’re older, you can smell if they pee.

They’ll be firmer wet. Also, cloth should be changed every 2 hours regardless.

You just have to check periodically. You won't be able to tell from the outside of the diaper that they're wet if they've just peed once. I've never smelled a little pee through a cloth diaper and have has trouble smelling poop through them as well. I just pull the front of the diaper out and check that way.

I would be checking the diaper often. My son is sensitive so when he poops it best to change him right away. And pee too. Usually he’s fussy when he’s done lol to let me know

Ok so if we have to change every 2 hours then what do we do at night? I’m new to this. This is my 3rd baby and I’ve always done disposable

Do the pinch test! If you pinch the outside and the insert feels kinda hard not fluffy then it’s wet! That’s the method I’ve been using!

Honestly, I just stick my finger in the front to see if he peed (and yes I wash my hands after). 
My youngest (7+4weeks) I change every 30-45mins when he has an aio on since he outgrew the absorbency of them (newborn size). When he has a prefold, flat or fitted, I do the same with my oldest and just use a finger to decide. Most of the time he needs to be changed about every hour- hour 1/2. 
My oldest typically needs to be changed every 2-3hours.

Natural fibers (like cotton prefolds) feel squishy and dense from outside the diaper when wet. Mostly just check at least every couple hours. You have to change cloth more often than disposables.
