Advice please!!

Help!! I catch this guy basically staring at me all the time since 8th grade, which is saying something because we are about to graduate from high school this year(its been 5 years of this). I always catch him looking at me, so I thought that was a good sign. For about a month or so he stopped staring and on prom night he confessed his liking of my friend to her and basically asked her out but never really made plans(this was 2 weeks ago). But today I caught him staring again! It's like a endless loop with him, I would go for it before we graduate but 1. I'm not sure if he actually likes me and 2. My friend really likes him.
