Awkward Family Vacation?!

So I’m on a vacation right now with my boyfriend & his family. We’re from California and we flew out to North Carolina for this. This is the first time I’m meeting some of his family. Everyone is great except for his brothers girlfriend. She has been nothing short of rude and judge mental since we got here. What really set me off was when we were playing Mad Libs and I couldn’t remember what an adjective was (sorry please forgive me) when it came to my turn again & I needed to provide an adjunct verb, she immediately goes “do we need to explain that to you too?”. & “she’s trying to learn her grammar” I felt extremely uncomfortable and extremely stupid too. I don’t like confrontation, and I’m here with his family but I don’t know what to do. I’m here with her until Saturday!

I would speak to your bf and tell him how you feel. I would also make sure I have a fantastic time and make sure she can see that! Just kill her with kindness and be stupidly nice to her that will just make her look even worse!

You aren’t stupid! She’s incredibly rude. I will never understand why people get so worked up over another person’s grammar usage. Your knowledge of language rules does not indicate your intelligence (and this is coming from an English teacher). I’d kill her with kindness the rest of the trip and take anything she says with a grain of salt. Not worth your energy. Enjoy the vacation!

Just give her a taste of her own medicine. Or say “wow I don’t know what I do to make you want to bring me down so much” why that phrase works I don’t know but I was taught it in business school and I use it often

I have a masters degree and am not confident in what an adjective is. She is rude. I agree to talk to your BF about how you are feeling. I also love to remember in those moments. "Egg on your face not on mine" meaning she can do and say shitty things and look terrible while I remain pleasant and respectful. Don't have to sink to their level
