Your thoughts?

I am 18 weeks pregnant, I currently work in an elementary classroom for students with severe behaviors. They kick, punch, throw things, flip desks etc. I feel like I should quit being this far along as it doesnt seem like a very safe environment to be pregnant in. Is it wrong of me, or should I quit? Being switched to another room isn’t an option.

I was in a similar situation.  I love my job, but I wasn't feeling safe.  My dr gave me a note at 25 weeks that I could no longer lift or restrain students for the rest of my pregnancy.  My employer was wonderful and accommodated me, having me move to a different position for the remainder of my pregnancy.  So it maybe possible you could do the same, so you can still have income and then a job for when your baby is born (if you plan on working afterwards)

Id see about switching. I see severely autistic children as a mental health clinician. I also have a disability (balance etc). Ive told them all if kid gets violent they will be referred out. Not worth myself or baby.

Is there anyway you can be switched to a different group of kids? I work in an elementary school too, so I know the struggle. 😉

The health of you and your baby comes before anything else. There will always be another job but this is your BABY and if you feel like he/she may be in danger then it’s probably in both of your best interests to leave. I am an elementary school teacher and even I had a couple instances where I had to cover up my belly because my kids were a little crazy sometimes. If you feel like that’s what’s best for you and your baby than do it and don’t feel guilty about it.

If you can quit then I would. I’ve referred some of my potentially violent clients to other clinicians before maternity leave started because I’m not taking any chances with my baby.
