Depression meds while pregnant

Can any moms vouch that using meds deemed safe while pregnant is fine for the baby? I have a cousin who suffers from depression but she keeps telling me that she doesn’t want take her meds in case it causes any birth defects while on depression and anxiety medication. I tried to tell her that she should be okay, especially if prescribed by a doctor but she just isn’t listening. I don’t think it’s healthy for her to be pregnant and feeling this way all the time.
