Advice please

So a dance studio near me is offering burlesque dance lessons and I wanted to learn because I want to join a club and make friends but when I told my mum I was going to join she said that I shouldn’t because I’m too fat for that type of dancing and no one else there will be fat. Is this true? Should I choose a different dance I’m not really sure what burlesque is properly my mum said it was women in underwear and that it’s only for thin pretty girls
