Is this racist?

I was with a friend and she was telling me and another friend a story about how she was scared walking  through the lobby of her apartment building that night  because a bunch of black guys were hanging out. My other friend who is black got upset and told her that was racist that she mentioned their race.

It most definitely is racist. And it’s not because she mentioned their race. It’s because she’s scared of them solely because of their race and the harmful stereotypes about black men being dangerous. Even if they’re clearly not causing any danger.

If she was scared because they’re black, then yes she’s racist. If she was scared because it was a group of men, then no she’s not.

That is racist, but would she be afraid if is was white or Asian guys? She probably just meant that she was scared of them because they were men.

First off it you can’t tell by my picture I am black. Now the mentioning of race could’ve been left out. But if there are a group of guys hanging out doing nothing and it’s dark i would be scared too. But that’s why i don’t do things  alone at night. She had friends with her. But yea she’s a little racist

Yeah I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to pick sides.  Her old roommate said she was racist one time too bc at Halloween she hung up this picture w ghosts that had nooses on them.

The term “Racist” is used incorrectly and FAR too frequently. 
If your friend was truly a racist/had racist beliefs... she would FIRMLY BELIEVE that she is superior to others, due to her ethnic/racial background & DNA being superior. 
Your friend was likely taught some toxic ideals, maybe even stereotypes people. But I’ve read no proof of racism.

I’d be scared because it’s a group of men. That’s because I’m slightly misandrist.
If she was only scared because they were black, then yes. She’s racist.
Also it wasn’t relevant in that situation to mention the young males race.
