How did you know you were in labor??

Question

Hey all so I’m 31+2, second pregnancy but first time giving birth. Just curious to know what labor feels like and how contractions feel so I’m more prepared and know what to look for! Very nervous about the whole thing as I haven’t had any major surgery type stuff so this will be he biggest thing I’ll have to be hospitalized for but just  so excited to meet our rainbow little girl!! And any advice is well appreciated, TIA!!!

At 31 weeks you should feel practice contractions (Braxton Hicks) they are a painless version of contractions and should Not last more than 60 seconds a time.

True labour though every person describes them differently. But to me they felt like a giant hug across the top of my belly that took my breath away accompanied with really intense period cramps.

I went into labour at 37 weeks at 4am in the morning, I woke up and didnt feel right. I had tightening in my lower abdomen, came every10ish minutes and when I felt those cramps no matter what i did i couldnt relieve the pain, I waited about an hour and at 5am I woke up my SO and said I think we need to go to the hospital. Turns out I was only 1cm dilated, the further along I got the pain got worse but tolerable. After the doctors broke my water, they came fast and hard. You will lose your breath but the main thing is to breath. It really helps. I was in labour for 27.5 hours, I didnt sleep the entire time. The contractions really wear you out after awhile, if you can sleep than try. I didnt want the epidural so I didnt see a reason to sleep though.
