Honest opinion on the girl name Gypsy? My husband says it sounds like a stripper name, said we may as well name her "Bambi" or "Honey" 🙄 "Gypsy Lee" was my 3× great grandmothers name, and she was BAD ASS. Just the kind of lady I'd like my daughter to be.

It is a racial slur. So I wouldn't recommend it. I'm Romani, and while in North America it isn't really recognised in Europe it is quite an offensive word.

If it was a family name I wouldn’t give a shit. But then again I’m tired of women’s name being connected to stereotypes. 
“Oh that sounds like a stripper name”
“Oh that’s a white trash name”
“Only whores are named that!”
You don’t see people saying “Gosh, Boys named Justin are such man whores” 
These are innocent children, don’t allow people to take that from them.

For me it’s a no way, my husband calls me a gypsy to lovingly make fun of my mom and my attraction to weird, colorful, sparkly things! BUT, as a family name for you and your great grandma being a badass I actually love it! Unique and meaningful = win/win!!

I have a stripper name lol. CANDY. Spelled just like that. I just asked a couple times a month if I'm an exotic dancer or used to be. and I always say no and life moves on. I used to get teased when i was a kid but I grew up and now I love my name and those are all things of the past.

I can also see your husband’s point of view too. It’s pretty “exotic” sounding until I read why you chose it. 
My husband wanted to name our first Layla and I said the same thing yours did. Lol. We named her Layla Rose..  and well.. one day I wanted to see how common it was to have a girl with that name... it turns out a porn star and my daughter share the same name 😳🙈🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ so definitely do a little googling before you settle on anything 😂 we still giggle about it but I do love her name
