scared to take test

my husband and I have been ttc for years!!! And recently my period is 29 days late so i wanted to know how long everyone waits to take a pregnancy test? I've taken them before and have been devastated so right now i just feel like i just don't want to go through that again... so i was probably going to wait til 2 or 3 missed periods? idk?!? anyone else feel like this or have had this problem? what did you do to overcome it?
