Allergic to naval piercing?

I've had it for about a year now and it has never stopped producing pus. It hurts about 60% of the time. There's Also a purple spot in the middle that's kind of indented and the skin on it flakes off. I've been looking at what to do and it says get gold or implant grade steel, both very expensive for a piercing. Any advice? I really don't want to take it out for good
