Birthing Classes?

My OBGYN gave me a list of classes - birthing classes, breast feeding, and parenting classes. All are about 30 to 60 dollars each. This is our first baby and my husband and I don't have any experience at all. I was just curious if the classes were worth it?

Ftm and the only experience I had was babysitting when I was like 14 and a little with my niece and nephew. Husband had zero experience with infants. We didn’t take classes. I’m sure there’s helpful information but we 1) didn’t want to pay for the classes 2) they were only ever in the evening before my husband was off work and I didn’t want to go alone and 3) I don’t think anything could prepare you for what’s going to happen it’s something you have to learn as it comes. There was a lot of information I’ve gotten from this community, the Ovia app, and my hospital has an app that had mini videos about everything. Plus with YouTube there are videos of classes you can access for free. Not saying it wouldn’t be worth it to do the classes your Ob suggested though if you could afford it and both of you could attend.

I've been told breastfeeding classes are really useful. My husband has to do parenting classes mandatory where we live, but I don't think we would have bothered. I'm interested in baby first aid though.

I am a FTM too and I like the comfort I get from the birthing classes.  I wouldn’t do a breastfeeding one though simply because my insurance doesn’t cover classes but they do cover lactation consultation 100% - which kinda takes the place of a class imo.

If you plan to breastfeed I HIGHLY recommend a breastfeeding class. It reallly helped me be successful and I used info from it throughout my entire time breastfeeding.

I think it would be good to attend at least one to see if it's worth it. We only get one free class here which is all day. Other than that we'd have to pay for classes, so we will see how it goes.
