Bills?

Question

This might have been posted before but what do you think about bill paying?
My fiancé just got offered a job that’ll pay him 70K a year

I only make 35K right now.

We’re paying half of everything, I said since he’ll be getting paid more he can pay a little more towards bills since after bills I only have $900 to spend that’s not spending it on miscellaneous things/things for our baby and he’ll have way more than me.

He said we both pay half and that’s fair to him.

What do you guys think? Do you split bills 50/50?

He does not pay for food whenever we go out, doesn’t pay for clothing/toys or anything for our son. He puts all the money into HIS savings not OUR joint savings.

If my husband made way more than me, he told me he would pay the majority of the bills while I pay for stuff like food and necessities, such as clothes, and put the rest in our saving account.

my husband makes well over 100,000 a year. I make 30,000 a year.  We split everything because we equally us everything. He pays when we eat out and I buy the groceries, just cuz he makes more doesn't mean he's more responsible for costs then I am

If you’re married it should all be joint. You get married and become a unit and should work that way regardless of who makes more.
If you aren’t married you should 100% keep everything separate. You have no legal rights to his money and vice-versa without a marriage. If for some reason one of you decides to leave, the law sees you as nothing but roommates and you have no rights to anything of his. If you want to come to an agreement on how bills are paid, that’s up to you. But always be sure to have savings and be able to pay the bills on your own just in case

We just do whatever works... and we aren’t even married yet. He pays full for some stuff, I pay full for some things, we half, we just do whatever works. For us money is just a fact of life and we are each other’s. What is mine is his, his is mine. So sometimes he pays for everything, and sometimes I pay for things

We split bills fifty fifty, but we also make more or less the same amount of money. I don't know what we would do if it wasn't so. I think 50/50 is okay unless someone is left with nothing - or almost nothing. However, when someone start to make way more than the other, they will also probably want to lead a more comfortable lifestyle - that the partner can't afford fifty-fiftly... In your case, I personally think you can still  go fifty-fifty, but for the expenses you already have: he wants to upgrade family car? You pay according to your possibilities, or he chooses the car YOU can afford. But more importantly, 50/50 or not: he HAS to pay for toys and clothes of your son as you do! It's his son too! That's really unacceptable, in my opinion.

My partner makes more than double I do. But we are a team and put all of our money in one pot. We trust each other not to do anything silly. After all , what’s his is mine and what’s mine is his ☺️ works for us xx

We have a joint account, thus our money is OURS, we pay our bills out of our account, what’s left is ours.
But every marriage is different. I do agree however that if is making THAT much more he needs pay more. Why would be want his wife to struggle if he has the extra money? I don’t get it, but I don’t get people who keep their money separate when married or getting married- but everyone is different

My husband and I make approximately the same, but we had discussed a percentage arrangement at first because I make more than him. We had considered saying each of us put x% into our joint accounts for bills and savings, then the rest is our own money. 
But it worked out to be like 50 bucks more per month for me and he said it was silly to have a way more complicated system for the sake of a smallish amount like that. If I were in your shoes, it would have definitely been the fairer system though.

My husband and I make roughly the same amount (within a few thousand/year of each other). Our paychecks go into our account and we pay our bills, necessities, and fun stuff out of our money. There is no divide of his & mine. It has always worked well for us but I know all couples are different. Good luck working out a plan you’re both comfortable with. Sometimes compromise is hard but it is also necessary.
