First Tattoo?

On my 18th birthday I want to get my first tattoo. I’ve always loved the idea of tattoos and how they can mean so much to a person. My mom majored in graphic design and is one hell of an artist. She told me if I gave her a design she would re-draw it so it could be completely hers. I want to get it on my upper arm below my shoulder...should I get it somewhere else? Will it be less painful since no shading is involved? Here’s what I was thinking...

For me, lines hurt more than shading! But I don’t know about the pain on that spot, I don’t have one there. But I’ve heard the calf is a good spot (low pain). Others might say that’s not a “feminine” spot, but fuck that 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s perfect where ever you decide to get it

I have this on my arm. Not a bad place unless it starts to go under your arm, then it really starts to hurt. I think shading hurts more. It’s a lot more needles when they shade :)

All three of my tattoos are in supposedly painful spots (ribs, back of neck, and front shoulder) and honestly the pain isn't what you think. Don't get me wrong, it definitely hurts! But it's not too bad to handle. I think linework tattoos are a great place to start. The linework hurts more, because the needles are more concentrated, but you don't get the soreness of going over the same spot so many times as with a fully shaded and colored piece. Pick a design and a location that you truly love; the pain is worth it.

Get it where ever you want. A tattoo like that won’t take all that long and won’t be painful unless it’s directly on a bone

Does your mom have an art page cause that's amazing! I heard getting a tattoo by your ribs hurt but any place that draws our attention the most should be the spot

Lines definitely hurt more than shading (for me at least)! I don’t have one in that spot however I have one on my ankle, back/shoulder, and thigh and the thigh was the least painful. The more fatty areas seem to be less painful. When they hit bone it’s definitely more painful. I’d imagine the arm wouldn’t be too bad but if you’re a skinny minny it could be a little more painful

I love that artist! I automatically recognized his art since everything is connected through one line.. not sure if you knew about him prior, or if you just found the picture but if you have insta you should check his insta out... ( moganji ) also, I have a few tats myself & generally only the shading is what makes it more painful... anywhere that's near bone is generally more sensitive too so you should be fine
