Born at 39 weeks and 2 days

Nikki

On June 12th I woke up at midnight having some contractions. They started out at 2 hours apart and throughout the day they started getting closer and more painful. They were consistently 5 minutes apart so I went ahead and went into Labor and Delivery. I was 38 weeks and 5 days and so excited thinking that was the day id meet my girl. Well, I was only 1 cm dilated and 75% effaced 😣 they had me walk for an hour to see if my cervix would change and NOTHING. So I got sent home. I had these consistent contractions all day the following day too. I had my 39 week appointment that Thursday so I decided to just wait instead of getting sent home again. At my 39 week appointment my OB told me I wasn't ready and could potentially have up to 3 weeks go. I was super bummed out. Then on Saturday, June 16th at midnight I woke up thinking I had to pee. I stood up and some started coming out. I didn't think anything of it as this has happened a few times before (darn bladder leaks) and then when I got to the toilet and sat down it just felt like I was peeing, but I noticed there was a blood tinged color of liquid in my panty liner. I stood up and felt more coming out but couldn't stop it. I realized my water was about to break. It didn't break all at once it just gushed out here and there. So I call my mom and wake my fiance up and tell them it's time to go. We get admitted (of course) and I was at least at a 2 but still 75% effaced. I tested positive for group b strep so I had to take antibiotics asap since my water broke. It took them 6 tries to finally get my IV placed. I wasn't progressing fast enough so they started some pitocin and checked me at about 6am and was only at a 3. They upped the pitocin and my goodness did those contractions really start getting intense. They checked me 2 hours later and I was at a 5 finally. By this time my contractions were a minute apart and a minute along so I didn't have much time in between and they were so painful. I broke down and asked for an epidural. Which was so fantastic. I was able to fall asleep on and off and relax which helped my labor progress so much faster. I was using the peanut ball to change positions every hour. They checked me around 2pm and I was at a 6. Finally they checked me at 3 and I had went from a 6 to a 10 in an hour and it was time to push!!! I pushed for what seemed like the LONGEST hour of my life but on 06/16/18 at 4:06 pm my little girl made it into this world weighing 8 lbs 8 oz, 20 3/4 inches long and has brown hair!!!
