Travel after IVF? ⛱️

Hi all,
I'm having my first IVF cycle (retrieval early July) and haven't planned summer vacation yet. I'm dying to get out of town after this ordeal (as soon as I find out if it's a +/- test), and since I teach, I can't take vacation during the school year, but I don't know if it makes sense to plan on traveling anytime close to the cycle. Any advice? Thank you!!

At the recommendation of my nurse we are doing our vacation during the birth control weeks this July and sticking around through August during the transfer/retrieval period. She mentioned timing a vacation for the 10-day wait but without exact dates that would have been too hard.

I traveled during IVF (the hyper stimulation phase) and will travel again in a few weeks at about 9 weeks pregnant.  My IVF nurse gave me a scare tactic line when I mentioned travel, saying “You wouldn’t want to feel responsible if something happened” but I ignored her.  She said a lot of dumb stuff.

Do it!   Traveled after our first cycle. And will be in about a month (after our third). Then we will pick up again and try for a forth or do an FET. My office says. Travel all you want.

I think a vacation after the stress of all this is a great idea, give you and your partner a chance to regroup and reconnect! My only caveat would be, we planned for a fresh transfer and had to switch over to a frozen, and I also didn’t expect to feel as bad after my retrieval as I did, but I got a mild case of OHSS.  One week out I am finally feeling better but still super bloated (and wouldn’t want to be seen in a swimsuit if my life depended on it right now) So maybe plan something refundable? Or maybe plan something far enough out from the potential fresh transfer but before any potential frozen transfer if you need to go that route.  Good luck!

Yes you can travel. We had to fly to a different country for IVF. I flew back home 3 hours after the results of my second set of  blood tests.

We are going away the week after transfer.  The vacation was planned prior to knowing we needed to do IVF.  I told my doctor about the travel plans and he was fine with it.  As long as your okay with traveling with the medication you should be fine.

I traveled 5 days after my egg retrieval (my doc only does frozen transfers), but wish I didn’t! I was so bloated and kind of miserable... I think if I had waited 2 or 3 more days it wouldve made a big difference!

I has this same problem but we decided (and RE advised) to postpone IVF until we came back from vacation. I was too worried something would go wrong while I was away

Just thought of this too, you won’t be able to have sex for two weeks after retrieval, so if you’re looking to “connect” in that way, it’s not gonna happen.
