How would you deal with a noisy neighbor while you have a sleeping baby?

My neighbors started playing music really loud to the point of shaking the windows. My son sleeps like a rock, but I know other neighbors have children who are sleeping right about now and not everyone has children who sleep deeply. I ignore it because they're not typically like that and it's not past 10pm. It's also not impacting my life anymore than mild annoyance. Would you go over and ask them to keep it down, leave a note, etc? Would you call the police or do you find that too excessive? Do you find it disrespectful to play loud music, especially when people are sleeping and have work the next day?

I honestly think it’s disrespectful to play loud music (like in an apartment or residence where other people can be disturbed) at any time of day just because people have different work schedules. Even on weekends. 
If you’re not very confrontational, you could probably start with a polite note and see how that works out.

If I knew them, and felt safe, I’d knock on their door and very nicely ask them to shut the fuck up. I’d even refrain from phrasing it that that way. If we were actually friends I’d probably bring some baked goods to thank them in advance for shutting the fuck up. 
However, I have never had a conversation with my neighbors. I hear them, but rarely actually see them. I’m about 73% convinced they’re annoying ghosts. 
So I’d call my landlord who lives downstairs, and ask him to do a check in. I’d only bother if it was extremely excessive noise though. Not normal moving about noise. 
I wouldn’t call the police at all unless there was more going on than just loud music a single time.

Yea so this happened to me.
I find it totally disrespectful/ self involved to play loud music or to be loud when living in an apartment building. 
I used to work from home and my new neighbor would play his music so loud that I would t be able to hear people talking on the phone when I was working. He would blast it at all hours during the day, the evening,  into the morning. He had a whole sound system going on. I started wearing noise cAncellation headphones because you know I didn’t want any bother and I considered myself to be quite easy going. 
I went over there introduced myself,  politely asked him to be mindful that I work from home and his music was loud and was interfering with that. He was so apologetic etc the nicest ever... but never turned his music down.
This happened several times. He was super nice about it. Even apologized profusely for his cigarette smoke and weed smoke traveling into our apartment and said he would crack the window open. 🤦‍♀️
The apartment manager begged us not to call the police and said she would deal with it. Never happened. 
Then I had a baby.
Nobody. NOBODY ☝️ wants a sleep deprived post partum diaper wearing mother raging on their doorstep at 3am.
Shortly thereafter, he moved out. 
We now have a sweet elderly couple next door 👍

Depending on the noise ordinance in your town you may just have to deal with it. They have rights to make a certain level of noise up to a certain point in the day. 
You could go personally and ask if they would be willing to keep it down a bit because your baby is having a hard time sleeping (even if he’s not). A note seems passive aggressive. The police is a valid option but like I said, if the law states they have until 10 to play music then the police won’t do anything.

Is this an apartment building? Do you have any kind of friendly relationship with them otherwise? 
They could very well just not have children and not even realize how early kids go to bed. I would go over there, with my baby on my hip, and introduce myself. I’d then nicely let them know that you don’t mind the music, but the volume is creating a problem and ask them to turn it down. If they refuse, or they don’t do it, I’d then contact a landlord, property manager, etc. Police should be a last resort. 
On that note, if it’s not bothering you personally, then don’t do anything. And yes, I think it’s a tad disrespectful, but give them the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully they just don’t realize.
