Friends..?

So this guy and I have been talking, I’ve known him since the beginning of 6th grade, he’s in 7th (I’m going into 7th he’s going into 8th now) and I started talking to him on insta because my friend liked him and I had to see if he was a fuck boy. He’s not, and so after she moved on (a week or so after) we (his name is Burlen) still talked. I slowly started to develop feelings for him and so did he. But it’s like every once and a while he’ll go without texting me for weeks, months at a time. And now (as of 15 mins ago) he swears we won’t ever get as distant as we were. But something about him just seems off, what do I do, or say to him?
