What's the possibility?

So my mum is a twin and my dad's sisters are twins. OH has a few twins on his side of the family. How likely is it that I will have twins? Myself and OH are anxious about what the scan will show. X

Depends.. Fraternal or identical? Fraternal twins are hereditary while identical are a freak of nature... The fact your partner is a twin plays no part in your chances of twins. It's all up to those little eggs.

Fraternal twins are the only kind of twins that are hereditary. And twins are only hereditary through your mom's side. I am a fraternal twin, and my great grandmother is an identical twin. But I didn't have twins and I have 4 kids. Sometimes it just happens with chance.

Twins tend to run genetically on the female side so the fact that your OH has twins in the family typically won't effect you. The fact that your mom is a twin may increase your chances.

I would say there's a pretty good possibility you could have twins. I wish I had those odds. My husband wants twins so bad, I wish I could give them to him.

Think about it this way, his sperm have no effect on how many eggs YOU may throw. And identicals are just spontaneous. Thats how my dr explained it. You could have increased chances with your maternal side, however. Good luck!
