Am I wrong for this?

SHE’S GONE TO A FOSTER FAMILY!

I’m going to try to make this short.

I already typed this out in detail once but accidentally clicked out & lost it all. 😭

My neighbors own a blue nosed pit.

Their grandsons dog. He was murdered last year but kept the dog there even before.

2 years ago when we moved in there were issues with her crawling under our fence & getting stuck over here because she could only go so far due to her being attached to a tree. We took her back home at least 6 times with no complaint. The last time we did, my husband was very obviously irritated. Told them they needed to figure something out. The neighbor came out screaming all sorts of stuff. Accusing him of being racist & being just an absolute horrible person. We’d only been here maybe a month.

We’d made up. We offered help.

Where to get a dog house, where to get her shots & spayed for free, even offered to take her for them. Offered to take her to a friend that was in pit bull rescue because they expressed that they weren’t dog people. They said they were giving her to a friend that owned a farm. She was gone for a few months. She was back suddenly & was so sick. Missing hair, lethargic, extremely skinny. They had apparently left her with a family member that never let her out of their apartment or took any care of her. They told me that.

She got better but she was still left her hooked to a tree in their back yard with no shelter from the elements. They don’t want her in their house because they have hardwood floors.

Today it was thunder storming, sirens where going off because a tornado had touched down near us. She was freaking out & No one was home next door so my husband brought her into our home.

She use to get loose daily & roamed around the neighborhood. When she got in here we realized why she hadn’t been recently. They had a damn rope leash double looped around her throat in such a way where if she pulled, it tightened. It was so tight that my husband almost had to cut it off. She was raw & bleeding. This is the type of shit you see people in trouble for on Animal Cops Houston. This absolutely broke our hearts & had my 7 year old crying hysterically.

While she was here we gave her food & water that she ate so fast she almost puked. Put flea medicine on her, let her rest & gave her lots of love. She was very thankful to my husband & she showed it.

She was very sweet & very calm.

We also called Animal services on them.

This is guaranteed to start stuff. They’re going to have a fit.

When my neighbors got home, they came & got her. Wrapped the leash back around her throat & hooked her back up to the tree.

Am I wrong for this? Should I have minded my own business? I’m almost certain that there’s some unspoken rule about minding our own business over here.

I tried to look up the laws about this in my state but can’t find that it’s illegal.

I’m also scared that Animal services are going to put her down because she’s a pit.

We wish we could keep her but we can’t.

UPDATE: Animal control got there before the Pitbull rescue & now I’m just throughly pissed off. They didn’t do shit but talk to them & give them a warning. I should’ve just fucking took her & I’m kicking myself.

Animal control just left. 😡🤬😭

UPDATE: We talk to the pitbull rescue that was going to come & told them that animal control gave them a warning, told them to fix the situation with shelter & stuff. Pitbull rescue said that is what animal control is supposed to do at first. I’m assuming since the dog isn’t malnourished & all that’s wrong is no shelter & her neck. So pitbull rescue told us to keep an eye on her & let them know if nothing changes.

So far the neighbors have tied up a tarp so she doesn’t get rained on.... though that’s not a shelter in my opinion. A shelter has walls & a roof. I think I saw them put a collar on her. Idk what sort of collar or anything though. It’s the same color as the leash they had around her neck so maybe they just added a collar & left the leash wrapped too. Idk. I’m waiting to see if/when animal control comes back to look at the situation again.

I saw animal control come one more time after the first time. They handed her papers & left. I called my friend & she said to have her call animal control & tell them that she wants to give them her dog & that’s it cost a bit. So I told her & she never to my knowledge did anything about it. She at one point asked me if I knew anyone who wanted her. It’s been 4 months since we called animal control. We’ve tried to help them, I’ve kept an eye on her, I’ve brought her in during storms. It’s starting to get cold out now & idk if she’ll make it through the winter so IF ANYONE HERE IS INTERESTED IN HER & CAN WORK WITH HER PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Shes very sweet, she gets along with my male dog. Doesn’t like cats & as far as I can tell, she’s okay around children. She will need to be worked with though. She likes to tear things up. Like the back cushion on my couch, the moment I walked out of my house for 5 minutes.
