I understand that your friend is upset, especially after being there for you when you needed to talk in the middle of the night. But I think your friend is overreacting, it’s not normal for phones to call in the middle of the night and you’re using sleeping pills, so I wouldn’t say you’re a bad friend at all.

I keep my phone on do not disturb mode from 9 pm until 6 am. I have a kid and don’t like to be woke up in the middle of the night by calls or texts. Your friend is ridiculous by expecting you to be waiting by your phone every night in case she has an emergency. Unless it was life or death, it could wait until morning. If it was life or death she could call 911.
