Reflux From Hell
I am in hell. I’m sure my baby is too. Our baby suffers from a milk protein allergy and has now been on Alimentum RTF for about two weeks now. We have upped her dose of Nexium to 10mg in the morning and 5 mg at night. We also give her a 0.6 ml dose of Zantac during the early afternoon while the Nexium builds up in her system. She will be 4 months old July 14th and weighs about 11.1 Lbs.
Between noon and 7pm I am in hell. She becomes inconsolable at times. She can only sit up because if I cradle her she cries. She arches her back and is drinking less milk than usual. She sounds very congested and is gnawing constantly at her fist. She sometimes pushes and grunts. I am at my wits end. I don’t know how to help my baby.
We are taking her to a Gastroenterologist on Thursday to see if there is anything we can do for her. I am so tired from not sleeping and frustrated and sad.
We burp several times during feeding, sit her up 30 minutes for digestion, I have to sometimes walk around with her until she passes out to get her to sleep. We give her gas drops in every bottle. We’ve even given her on occasion Carafate for pain. She still suffers. She doesn’t like the Fisher Price rock and play or any forms of swings. Hates her car seat/stroller. Right now she is sleeping in a Halo bassinet. I got a wedge for it to help incline while she sleeps.
I am waiting because I ordered a BabyBjorn bouncer to see if she likes it since it’s more upright.
Any advice?
Update: We took LO to the GI and she had us change her formula to Elecare. I was a bit disappointed because it would be like the 5th time we’ve changed her formula. Plus it’s very expensive. However, she’s on day two and after a few missteps we seem to be doing better. Which makes me think her milk protein allergy has been the real problem and the reflux only made things worse. Here’s hoping things are looking up from here on out. If baby is happy so is mama.
