What’s the normal weight for an infant at birth?

Google says anything from 5lbs 8 oz to 8lb 13 oz
My baby boy is estimated to weigh around 8lb at birth and my mom is telling me “8 lbs is a huge baby” 😑 it’s really annoying her telling me this bc I’m pretty sure 8lbs is average.
And I know the weight estimation is usually really inaccurate anyway....

8lb is on a larger side but not huge. I'd love for an 8lb baby, my son was a huge baby so I'm hoping this one is smaller :)

The estimate is more of an educated guess. I’ve had friends have it be off by almost 2 lbs, and the “big” baby they expected was average size.  Also, 8 lbs is a healthy normal baby.

The average is about 7.5lbs (in the U.S.) so while 8lbs is above average it’s by no means huge. I’ve known plenty of 9 or 10lb babies and there have been some even larger.

8 pounds is sizable. I think the average is in the low 7 pound range. Women push out 10-12 pound babies with no issues often enough. 8 isn’t too big.

My son was 8lbs 7oz when he was born. Didn’t seem that big to me(: I just had our third almost 2 months ago and she was born at 4lbs 9oz and is now almost 6lbs. I don’t think there’s really a way to say a stander weight of a newborn (:

My first was 6 lbs. Even though she was small, I had several vaginal tears that required stitches. Hoping this one is on the small side. 🙏🏽
