Opinions??
*Just so we’re clear I am not seeking medical treatment of any kind, just asking for opinions. I also apologize if this is the wrong kind of group*
My husband is a Correctional Officer at a prison. Today they were collecting disposable razors used by inmates for shaving purposes.
(They have to count them when they give them out and count them when they get collected and then he’s the final person who triple checked the number of sharps)
Well, as he was doing his final counts, his finger was grazed by a used razor. He was wearing a standard powdered latex glove.
He said there was no blood. Just one of those light white scratches. Like if you itched yourself with you finger nail. He said it’s not even really a scratch in his opinion. He said the razor didn’t have blood or rust on it, some tiny hair bits which is to be expected but that was it.
He immediately went to the clinic at work because he wasn’t off the clock yet and the LPN there said that she didn’t think he was at risk for contracting any infections because the scratch didn’t draw blood or break the skin. There is no way to tell which one out of the 100’s of inmates in his block used that razor and if that inmate who used that particular razor even had a disease to begin with, but prison is dirty and inmates are dirty so you have to be cautious.
So we just wanted a few extra opinions on how much of a risk he has on contracting a disease.
I’ll update the post with questions/comments.
UPDATE:
-Jennifer, no it didn’t break the skin. Pretty much just came into contact with his finger. Not even a red mark.
