Do you believe in the cry it out method? 
I’m the nanny. I hated to watch (on monitor) the little one cry. He’s 10mo. He ate his lunch, just had a diaper changed. I offered a bottle (he refused). I rocked him for 45mins straight. So I let him cry for 5 mins in his crib and it just about broke my heart because I cried too. He did fall asleep after those 5 mins. 
The mom wants me to let him self soothe in the crib but guys it literally broke my heart.

You'll probably get a lot of different responses on this but what matters is what the childs parents want.

If you didn’t you’d be running yourself ragged trying to get him to sleep at every nap and night time. The more habits you create the more you have to break eventually. Also if someone was watching my kid I’d want them to respect my wishes.

5 min is not really cry it out. That’s him settling down. My son cries probably 15-20. Has cried longer but we’re getting there.

CIO has been shown to lead to issues later on. Babies aren't manipulating people, they want attention and comfort. I tried to let my baby CIO once....it felt so wrong. If it feels wrong it probably is.

I’ll hire you... I wish I could find someone that cares as much as you do for your young charge.  A little crying is ok, but to the point of the baby being hysterical is toooo much. 
Dr. Sears makes a good point about babies crying. It raises the baby’s blood pressure and yours. Not good.

I do to some extent. There is a pint when it becomes excessive but 20-30 minutes is sometimes what they need to realize they need to go to sleep, calm down, etc

Yes and no. I won't ever let them cry past that 5 minute mark. I'll just pick her up, bounce her for a minute, give her her binky, tell her I love her and try again. I just don't see the benefit in letting her scream her head off until she sleeps. It's just not something I can do. We never did the full cry it out. We did the under 5 minute thing and it worked wonders. She never had to cry it out after 7 months. She was fully understanding that she needed to sleep when she was in the crib for bedtime/nap time.

It’s only 5 minutes. Either way it doesn’t matter you have to follow what the parents set. I would prefer my child cry for 5 min than need to be rocked for an hour every time they wake up. They have to learn to self sooth at some point.

I believe in cry it out to a certain extent. I don’t let me son get so upset he can’t breath but if he’s whining and fussing a bit I just leave him and 9 times out of 10 he’ll lay down and go to sleep. I don’t consider 5 minutes ‘crying it out’.

5 minutes of trying to self soothe to go to sleep is absolutely fine. my 1 year old has to or he wont sleep, it breaks my heart too but it's what I have to do for him to sleep
