Will a c-section work for me?

So here's my back story, I gave birth to my son in September of 2012. 6lbs, 13oz, 19in. The delivery was horrible! My epidural didn't work due to a prior back injury.(I broke my back at 16.) I kept passing in and out from the pain being too much and my anxiety being too high but it was too late for a c-section. I'm currently pregnant again and I am terrified about when it comes time to give birth again!

If my epidural didn't work due to a prior injury how will the c-section one work when I give birth this time and do I have to be awake for it??
