Any experience with a 5 year old who talks back?

Simple request - like picking up their personal items or cleaning up after themselves...even practicing school work..

It's some no, a lot of hesitation, why, already did it...didn't put it there...no I don't feel like it...accompanied with whining..or just a response opposite to what you said bc 5 year olds know everything...😉

Any suggestions? I feel like I didn't talk back to my mom until I was much older. When my mom told me to do something, even if I delayed a bit I knew not to talk back...I just did it.

They need to get immediate consequences and it needs to be consistent. You can choose to start off giving them one warning that they are back talking and not listening and that the next time there will be punishment. Once you warn them you must follow through. The behavior may get worse before it gets better because they will try to see how far they can push it hoping you will break first.

Experienced 3 nephews. 
You're the parent, you know early years are depremental to learning. What they're learning right now is its ok to talk back.
Better nip it in the butt with heart to heart conversation followed by rules.

You have to correct him as soon as he does it & let him know THATS NOT OK. Little kids are like master manipulator sand will walk all over you given the chance to do so.

This sounds silly. But maybe watch some reruns of the "super nanny" type shows like nanny 911.

Kids mimic what they see. You could have that behavior in some way and not realize he's picking up on it. Or he might be seeing it somewhere else that you may not even realize. That age is rough but it really is just a lot of learned behavior unfortunately... had that problem with my niece because she got it from her mom and it was really hard teaching her it was wrong. Focus on the good things he does! It'll be alright :)
