Instagram vs reality

K

Honestly I’m self conscious about so many parts of my body and I have no idea how to take a “good” picture and work my angles or whatever. But every now and again I get a good picture out of the 100+ I force my friends/family to take. Mostly because I’m so self critical, I’m sure they aren’t as bad as I think they are. But I have that “ideal” body in my head and what I see is not exactly what I want.

The “ideal” body I built was based on images of beautiful social media models and celebrities. And it’s all so damn fake. This here is a great example:

Below is a decent looking photo, pretty sexy. “Insta worthy” if you will.

The following photo, taken a few minutes later. Not quite as “insta worthy”

It’s so hard, but I keep reminding myself that what you see on social media is not reality. It’s hand selected to be beautiful. Those insta models probably too thousands of photos and searched for hours through the camera roll to find the best one.

It’s just a shame that so many of us struggle with body positivity because our standards of beauty are fake.
