What to expect...

Question

I have an anatomy scan coming up Tuesday and I wanna know what all they're going to do. I'm nervous and this is my 1st appointment where bf won't be there.

My anatomy scan lasted well over an hour only because she moves.. a lot even still at 37 weeks lol. They ultrasound your belly confirm gender if you want to know and go over their whole body basically checking 10 fingers 10 toes but more in depth. Umbilical cord placenta heart brain blood flow etc. Its a super cool experience I'm sorry bf (father of baby?) can't make it to this one it's kind of special in my opinion.

It can be nerve-wracking because they really do check everything, even things you never knew could be wrong! But it’s also an awesome opportunity to see your baby on screen for 45mins or so. We had a really friendly sonographer who talked through everything she was checking and told us at each stage if the results looked normal.
They’ll take measurements of the head circumference, belly circumference, femur length etc, and also some measurements of parts of the brain. They check that all the organs and diaphragm are in the right place and that they look clear, that there are two bones in the forearms and lower legs, and that the heart has all the valves and chambers in the right place and closed up so the blood is flowing properly. Also they check that the back is closed, look for any cleft lip/palate and count the fingers and toes. As well as telling you the sex if you want to know. They’ll also check the position of your placenta and where the umbilical cord inserts.
They’ll make a lot of pictures for your records which can take a while as even though they can sometimes see that everything is normal while the baby moves around, they need exactly the right angle for the photo. So don’t worry if they seem to be lingering on one thing for a while, they’re probably just trying to get baby to cooperate. I ended up having four scans (two full ones and two second attempts) because my little one was not playing ball!

They are going to check and measure everything with the baby. Tell you the gender if you dont already know. Pretty basic.

My mil went with me since hubby is working out of town. They providded a CD of the ultrasound. I suggest you ask them to check the CD in their computer because mine did not work and I had to go back and pick up another copy.
