What are the essential scans and tests you had done during pregnancy?

My medical aid does not cover all of it and I don’t want to waste money on unnecessary tests. Which scans and tests are most important, I want to do what is right for my baby. I get to have 3 scans covered and then “selected tests”, but it’s not specified. I will try to get a list but wanted to get some input on your experience and perspective on what is most important. 
I have done my dating scan today, and will do the 14week scan with the NT testing as it is covered. Then anatomy scan?

Those 3 should be all you need, unless you become high risk of course.

For me, I had genetics testing (a bloodtest) and I’m super glad I did because it told me my first daughter had monosomy x, which was not detected on an ultrasound, and it prepared me for her passing (she passed at 37 weeks), so from there everything ended up being covered for me because of it. 
My second daughter since I’m high risk i have scans every other week and now weekly, also had the genetics testing (had three different ones this time) plus NT scan at 12 weeks. 
If you’re not high risk id say the anatomy scan forsure, NT scan, and the glucose test for gestational diabetes because it’s pretty important to know if you have that or not.

Yes, a dating scan, NT scan at 12 weeks, and anatomy scan around 20 weeks. 
This is typically the only three ultrasounds you need UNLESS you’re high risk and there’s other issues.

You also probably want to screen for gestational diabetes with the glucose test around 28 weeks and then a few weeks before your due date a screening for group B streptococcal. 
Maybe more depending on your age or any individual risk factors.
