My ER doctors said that hip pain during pregnancy isn’t normal? Is this true?

I went to the er because it’s my first pregnancy and I was having pain i now know to be pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain. My hcg doubled in a day and a half so we’re doing great there, but my doctors both said pain isn’t normal. I know my hips and uterus were expanding and that was what the pain was. (Google, mom, and pregnant cousin confirmed) but like... why would my doctors say pain isn’t normal?  Is it true?

it depends how early. i have a hip pain too but i had it before pregnancy. now i have realized it is muscle and ligament related. i strech. a lot.

Every pregnancy is different as is every woman. I had pain on my hips since the beginning of my pregnancy. It happens to a small percentage of women when it’s in the first trimester. Most women get pain mid second or in their  third trimester. I also had severe sciatic pain late second trimester and until I gave birth at 37 weeks. I was given a belly girdle, it did nothing. You should look up yoga poses or pregnancy yoga, do hot showers or hot compressions on your back & hips. I was told to use Tylenol, it did nothing  and I was limping once I hit like 20 weeks. I would follow up with a obgyn and not generalist, which is normally what you see in an emergency room and they don’t know shit. Always go to a specialist in whatever you need medical attention and make sure they are board certified.

I have SPD which my ob also refers to as pelvic girdle pain. So I will have some pretty bad hip pain, but more so highly intense pelvic pain / pressure. I’m 34 weeks and it’s not something that’s affecting my daughter in any way, just more so making my pregnancy beyond painful and miserable. My ob gave me some exercises to do on my yoga ball which have helped ease the pain, and as she suggested a belly sling which takes a ton of pressure off my pelvis,hips, & back. So I suggest getting one of those, especially as you get further because if you have pelvic girdle pain/SPD I can guarantee you it’ll just get worse as you and baby grow.

So I had back and hip pain on my left side starting at 10 weeks. The joint itself was upset, which upsets your muscles and nerves. 
I saw a chiropractor at like 26 weeks and felt much better. There isn’t anything to do to fix it. 
What helps, stop walking! Seriously. I have a desk job but simply going to work, driving and filing KILLED my back and hips. I literally would stop in my tracks feeling paralyzed for a few seconds. I could not walk more than a mile a day. And I was a fit person before pregnancy with a Fitbit walking up to 4 miles a day with no problem. 
What else helps, a heating pad. It only helps while it’s on. An electric one for sitting and a patch for moving around. 
My doctor said it’s normal pregnancy pains but I know that my case was rare and somewhat severe. 
At 36 weeks I quit working altogether. I sat on my butt. My husband went grocery shopping, cooked dinner, ran the errands and cleaned the house. Tylenol and the heating pad helped. After a week of sitting and not being active at all, I felt 100 times better. 
I’m now 39 weeks and not in pain. I know my limits. I don’t shop hardly at all. I know getting baby’s room together is too much physical work for my body. I can go to Safeway and maybe a few errands, for an hour before I get too tired. 
Please get the help you need, a chiropractor perhaps? Look up stretches for sciatica and such and it will help you loosen up your muscles. Do them twice a day. Rest and relax. Take it as easy as possible. Unfortunately we are the rare few with such extreme pain. I’m hoping my energy returns after baby arrives.

I have hip pain but I find it because I can only sleep on my sides and my hips are paying because I’ve always been a back sleeper.
