Bed sharers: When did you start? Safety tips?

I have a 1mo who currently sleeps in a soother/bassinet next to me but I would rather bed share and it seems like he prefers it too; the few times I let him in bed with me we both slept so much better and for longer stretches. However I'm scared to commit to it because I've been told so many times how risky it is. any thoughts? Advice? Cautionary tales?

We started putting our son in the bed around 2-3 weeks. He kept me up all night otherwise. Our daughter has been in our bed since day 1 but she was a big baby. I wouldn’t be comfortable sleeping next to a little 6 pounder. We have a king size bed so I put her about 2 feet from the edge and leave my boob out so she can nurse throughout the night. She sleeps on her side and uses my boob as a pillow 😂 We all get lots of sleep. She sleeps from 8pm-8am. When she starts rolling over or moving, she will sleep on the other side of me, away from the edge.

And yes, it actually lowers SIDS rates. It’s absolutely safe if you do it right and better for sleep for both of you!
