Unvaccinated people around your newborn?

Question

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant. And today I stumbled across a post on good ole Facebook where my good friend Caitlyn was stating her stance in being "anti-vax" and stated that she is NOT vaccinated and never has been. She has never shared that part if her medical history with me. As a soon to be mom, I cant help but not want her around my newborn. I'm worried about what she could possibly be carrying and pass in to my newborn. With my due date being in the middle of flu season and all the other lovely colds that go around in the winter would it be completely irrational to not have her visit my newborn ...? 
I am just not wanting to risk it.

my sister-in-law is an anti-vaxer too, I told her straight to her and my brother-in-law's face that my child will be no where near them or their kids. They made a choice to not vaccinate and I will make the choice to not allow my vaccinated child around them. there are already so many things as (soon-to-be) parents that we don't have control over but the things we do, we should not take lightly. sorry I will get off my soapbox now, i hope that helps.

Personally, I would not allow VACCINATED people around my newborn- specifically if it was a live vaccine. Anyone who has had a live vaccine recently can actually shed the disease and infect others. That’s often why you see outbreaks of a disease among all vaccinated people (that and ineffective Vaccines)
 Also, the flu vaccine is incredibly ineffective. So those vaccinated are hardly different than those who have not been. 
Eat well, take lots of Vit C and nurse that baby. That will be the baby’s protection. This is an extremely touchy subject with 99% of people not doing a stitch of research but just repeating what others say. If you dive deep in this debate, you will begin to see much misinformation and poor research. It’s a tough subject to say the least!

I’m with you. My first was March 2017 and flu season went late that year. So all family that wanted to come to see him was told they needed their flu shot and whooping cough vaccine. Once my son was old enough to get his own I stopped worrying about it but I’ll be the same with this baby. It’s our responsibility to keep them safe and it’s just not a risk my husband and I are willing to take. No one in my family complained to me about it and I know they don’t all get every shot regularly.

I’m not having unvaccinated people, or people who were vaccinated too recently, around my newborn. There’s a window of time after receiving certain vaccines that is considered the safe zone. For instance, when my husband received his smallpox vaccine pre-deployment we couldn’t have sexual relations for three days or he could have given me smallpox. There are certain live vaccines that are able to be shed for weeks through saliva and respiratory droplets - so make sure you speak to a trained medical professional about which ones need to be given weeks/months prior to birth to be considered safe 😁

I’m 17 weeks!! My doctor told me it’s crucial for people who are going to be around baby a lot to have the flu shot.

I'm not vaccinating and still not having my baby around unvaxed and vaxed people until 3 months old. of course close close family can come over occasionally but must wash hands up to elbows thoroughly.
