It seems like my boyfriend hates me

It seems like my boyfriend hates me. I’ve really been trying to make this long distance relationship work. We used to live in the same state for 17 years (our whole lives). Now I’m 18 and I moved away for college and we’re still in a relationship. We spent an amazing time together this summer and now he’s been really depressed. It seems like he hates me, he was talking about calling the relationship off but he can’t bring himself to do it (for now). This is the same personal that treated me like a queen this whole entire summer together and put so much effort into getting a promise ring so he could promise himself to me. I just I guess I can’t believe he’s acting this way. I don’t know what to do.
