Extremely heavy 1st period after D&C, does anyone know if this is normal?

I had a D&C; done little over a month ago. Doctor said I’d get my period 4-6 weeks after the procedure. I just got it today, I don’t get to see my doctor till next week. Cramps are mild but the flow is extremely heavy and my flows are usually light. Is this normal? 
Ps- D&C; is a procedure to clean out your uterus after you have a miscarriage or a missed miscarriage for those who don’t know.

My period after my D&C; was extremely light and i called my doctor to see if that was normal and they said yes because the D&C; cleans out your uterus. I would just recommend calling your doctor if you aren’t sure. My poor doctors office is probably tired of me by now but at least i get the answers i need.

I had a missed miscarriage back in 2015 and my period afterward was so heavy i ended up back in a+e. and had to have painkillers but the doctors did say it could happen. it's not a common thing but unfortunately as I said it does happen.
