Weaning Breast Milk Production

Vi

I had high hopes of breast feeding my new baby full-time!! Despite a newborn who latched immediately after birth - and a pretty good and growing supply of breast milk...some early rookie mistakes with positioning and control left my nipples raw, pussy, swollen, and bloody. So much so that the lactation nurse team and physicians that I consulted are concerned about infection and encouraged me to ‘give my nipples a rest’ so that the tissue could heal. So I switched to full-time pumping and supplementing with formula if I wasn’t producing enough. Unfortunately - the tissue of my nipples continues not to heal with full-time pumping and have made the entire experience painful and miserable. I am considering transitioning my son to full-time formula. What would the process be like for me to stop essentially stop milk production completely? Is there some process to do that? Thank you in advance!! Very unexpected (and somewhat disappointing) breast feeding outcome for this first time Mom.
