Adoption or Surrogacy?

We have done some preliminary research online and seems to be an arduous process. Not more than expected - just unecessarily difficult for families to adopt with all the home studies and intense questioning about your income and ability to provide for a child. Not to mention the fact that many birth mothers are so specific with their criteria that we would never fit their 'requirements.' Also the cost - depending on legal fees etc. it seems some families pay between $50-$100k just to adopt a child! We are very comfortable but definitely don't have a spare $50-$100k lying around. 

We also would prefer an infant which we know increases both the cost and the wait time.

I just would like some advice from any of you out there who have gone through the process. How long did it take? How much did you end up paying? Any agencies you could recommend?

We haven't looked into much on surrogacy yet but would appreciate any advice on this too.
