Why do people get so upset about others not showing up to their baby shower

People do have lives. I see girls complain all of the time because people didn’t come to their shower or their child’s birthday party. What does it matter if they come or not. If they’re in you and your child’s life that’s all that matters. Shit happens and people cant make it to every event.
Just ranting because my sister that lives 3 hours away is angry that I won’t make it to my nieces party

So I have posted about people not coming to my daughters birthday and my baby shower. And I’ll let you know why. 
I’m upset when people say they’re coming and then don’t show up because I put effort and time into planning a party. It’s just a little disappointing when a family or more than one family can make all the difference in ordering 12 verses 24 cupcakes. I ended up with more food then I wanted to afterward. 
If the guest was sick or something happened to them or family where hey just couldn’t come all of a sudden, I think that’s understandable but just not even showing up and not apologizing about it I think is just disrespectful. One person in particular did this to me 3 times so obviously I’m not inviting her anymore. 
But I myself feel like people should at least rsvp to let the host know so they can plan. If your sister knows ahead of time she shouldn’t be upset with you. You guys can celebrate another time privately.

I don’t know about birthdays (another one is coming around.. haha) but I think with showers it’s because a lot of people look on it as a big milestone in their lives - like a wedding — and so they expect important family and friends to be there (just as with weddings) and make sacrifices to be there.  Mix that with hormones and it’s a perfect storm.   I think given some time and perspective most people get over it and realize that being there consistently is more important than the one day.

Don’t say you’re coming then don’t because you’ve probably been catered for! Saying you aren’t coming at all is a whole different thing

I’m not really sure honestly. The thing that bothers me is that nobody knows how to RSVP these days, but I’m not going to be bothered if people don’t show up to mine.

I think some people are a bit overdramatic about it but I think some kinda have a reason. For example I was mad that none of my husband's family came to our baby shower. They had known about it for months, kept saying they were gonna come. They live 5 mins down the road and had no excuse not to come. But on the day none of them showed. Fast forward a year and its that same babies first birthday. Let them know 3 months in advanced what day the party was and what time. Kept telling me all about how they wanted to help. When I did ask for help (just to keep them involved) they kept backing out of helping. Okay thats fine. Week of the party rolls around and oops they forgot when it was  and all are going out of town on a church retreat. They say they already paid for it and can't get a refund so they are going. She is now 17 months and they haven't seen her since thanksgiving when she was 8 months.

I just get pissed when people rsvp for their families and I buy all the food and goodie bags and they don’t show. Or when no one rsvpd and shows up then I’m short on food. All I’m saying is,  bitch needs to be prepared for this part bs😭😂
